BUT London was really cool this weekend! I met up with the parentals at the train station, and we headed off. London wasn't as cool as I thought it would be, but I think it's because I had really high expectations.
And it was so hard for me to hear UK English! It's really like a different language, so my ears had to get used to the frequency, which is really high, I think. I heard French a lot easier than I heard UK English! Weird.
We went to all of the usual tourist spots:
The prison that held the most dangerous criminals in London. DUN DUN DUNNN! London sure is captivated by torture/prisons/criminals. They have a museum and street dedicated to English torture methods!
SHAKESPEARE'S GLOBE THEATER! LIFE GOAL COMPLETED. But it wasn't as wonderful as I thought it would be... I knew it was a remake, but it looked really remaked (?) with it's stark white paint on the outside.
Sky line of London. So pretty, right? I think I just like sparkles and lights a lot.
In general, nice trip. My parents bought me a lot of things, but I got pretty frustrated with them by the end of the six days with them, so I feel like I'm a spoiled, ungrateful child. I was a little nervous about how the trip would be since I hadn't had 24/7 contact with them since... 8th grade because I hadn't gone on a vacation with them in ages. It started off well because I did miss them, but six days was definitely enough for us. I need to work on being more patient though--I get really annoyed with my Mom, and then silence from me follows with spuratic bursts of word vomit. But I need to be nicer--they are my parents, they mean well, and they're getting older. Bah! I'll try harder.
Next stop: CAIRO!

* remade. Damn your english is bad. Rutgers shouldn't allow english majors to study abroad in non-english speaking countries.
ReplyDeleteAnd St. Paul's Cathedral: Most of the architecture copies greek-roman temples (pediments, domes, columns), so possibly more background in religion than politics. Very much renaissance-y. Whitehouse = neoclassical, which is also inspired by classical architecture but reflects a different philosophy. I sound like "that guy" now, so I will stop. Art history is so cool. And they do look pretty damn similar.
Can't wait to chat!
